Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Denney
Charles(Chuck) Denney was born on May 23, 1941 in Reubens, Idaho but he lived mostly in Washington during his childhood, moving to Gold Beach in the summer of 1959. He attended his senior year at Gold Beach High School graduating in 1960. He married Sharon Nichols on November 23 later that year. They have lived their entire married life in Gold Beach. They have three children: Lisa Garrett.(Doug) Steve Denney (Teresa) and David Denney.(Shelley) He has seven grandchildren(Kaitlin, Aley, Nick, Zac, Diana, Mary and Laura) and one great grandson.(Harlan)

Starting in 1968, Chuck began a career in Law Enforcement that spanned over three decades. He began as a deputy with the Curry County Sheriff’s office but left after 6 months to join the Gold Beach Police Department. Eight months later, he was back with the Sheriff’s office where he began to work his way through the ranks. He held the ranks of Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Chief Deputy, Undersheriff and Sheriff. During his career, Chuck graduated from many prestigious professional development institutions, including the FBI National Academy, and the very first Oregon Executive Development Institute. This was instrumental in the development of the first K9 program for CCSO and insured that programs such as Search and Rescue and Marine Patrol were continually developing. He also took courses Southwestern Oregon Community college, University of Virginia and and Southern Oregon State College. Chuck retired from public service in 1998 to spend time doing the other things he loved.

Chuck loved woodworking, hunting, working on cars, traveling with his wife Sharon in their motorhome and watching sports.

He played football, basketball and did track in high school. He was All State in basketball his senior year. He loved watching us kids play sports when we were teenagers and despite his busy job, he was in the bleachers yelling at the refs and encouraging us to score most of the time.

Donations can be made to American Cancer Society, Curry County Search and Rescue or Curry County Sheriff’s K9 program.
