Obituary for Frieda Belcher Gloyd
FRIEDA BELCHER LEISTER/GLOYD Frieda Gloyd passed away in Brookings just before her 94th birthday. She is survived by her children, Deanna Elsom and her husband, George, of Brookings, and Douglas Leister of Arlington, Virginia, and grandchildren, George Elsom, Jr. of Bend and his wife, Monica, and Tammy Beckley of Brookings, and four great-grandchildren: Abby Beckley, John Beckley, Kaylee Elsom and Austin Elsom, all of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her loving son, Terry Leister. Frieda is survived by an older sister, Mable Brewer of Billings, Montana, and a brother, Don Belcher of Roundup, Montana, and many Belcher family members. Frieda grew up on a ranch in Cushman, Montana and later established a beauty shop in West Yellowstone where she met and married Richard V. Leister. They were married for 33 years, until he passed away in 1971. She was a school lunch dietitian in Sumner, Washington, for most of her working years, providing breakfast and lunch for several hundred students. Eventually, she married Orville Gloyd and they spent winters in Hemet, California, and toured much of the United States during the summer months. Orville passed away six years ago. She lived here in Brookings at Macklyn House and later at LaSiesta, both wonderful care homes. She will be missed by family and friends for her light sense of humor, smiles, and strength. No service will be held.
