Obituary for Cleo P. Hatfield
Cleo P. Hatfield, 91, of Brookings, passed away in Gold Beach on May 9, 2015. Cleo was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Willows, California, the youngest of five children, to Ralph and Vernetta (Smith) McClurkin. She later moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she lived until moving to Seattle. She then moved to Paradise, California, and then to Chico, California. While in Paradise, she met Carl Hatfield; the two were married in Reno on Feb. 28, 1965. They made their home in Chico until they moved to Brookings in 1978. Cleo was always very active in whichever church the family was attending. She had a wonderful talent in music and played piano and organ in church, most recently as a member of Faith Baptist Church in Brookings. She also loved to crochet. She made a lasting impression on anyone she met and will be missed. Survivors include her sons, Michael Scott and his wife, Arlyce of Redding, California, Douglas Scott of Lakeside, California, Stephen Scott and his wife, Jennifer of Portland, and Wade Hatfield of Brookings; grandson Michael Saul of Newport News, Virginia; five nieces and nephews; and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews. Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2009; her parents; and siblings Mary Ford, Marjorie Shallenberger, and Robert and Howard McClurkin. The family asks that any flower arrangements be sent to Faith Baptist Church, 409 Hillside Ave. in Brookings. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2860 Riley Road in Eagle Point. Pastor Ron Robertson of Faith Baptist Church will officiate.
