Obituary for Michael McKinney
Michael McKinney, 24, passed away suddenly in a motor vehicle accident in Oklahoma on Friday, November 21, 2013. He was born March 6, 1989 in Walnut Creek, Calif. When Michael was 18 months old, March 27, 1990, the family moved to Brookings where he attended Kalmiopsis Elementary, Azalea Middle School and graduated from Brookings Harbor High School. In high school, Michael played football, baseball and golf. Michael then attended Northwest Lineman College and was currently working as an apprentice lineman for Haverfield Aviation where he specialized in aerial access only power sites. Michael loved hunting, fishing, riding quads and dirt bikes. He loved living in Brookings and was making plans to move back and continue his career in the power industry. Survivors include his parents John and Susan McKinney of Brookings, sister, Aderienne McKinney of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Hillary Eszlinger (Jacob) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and son, Jacob McKinney of Brookings, grandmother, Marilyn Walsh of Concord, Calif., aunts and uncles, Joe and Diane Cardoza of Cobb Mountain, Calif., Tony and Christine Hunhoff of Clayton, Calif., Ted and Cybele Walsh of Seattle, Wash., Randy and Donna Smith of Antioch, Calif., numerous cousins including Ryan Stickney, Katie and Joey Cardoza, Natasha Jackson. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Paula McKinney and Edward “Ted” Walsh. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Brookings Harbor Christian Church, 777 5th St. in Brookings. A reception will follow the service at the church.
