Charles was born September 24, 1944 in Auburn, New York, one of three children to Almirat and Stella (Brodeur) Bergeron. He grew up there. In 1962, at the age of 17, Charles enlisted in the US Navy. He was trained in electrical engineering and was stationed at Key West during the Bay of Pigs. He later served as a sonar technician aboard the USS Hollister during the early stages of the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge in 1966, Charles moved west to California and found work developing electrical panels for Douglas’ DC-7. He later went in to sales and marketing where he held a number of different broker positions – everything from stocks and commodities to game shows and HMO’s. In 1967, Charles married Teresa Gonzales. They later divorced in 1974. He later married Patricia DiMora in Glendale, Calif. on June 2, 1979. They moved to Paradise, Calif. in 1980. The family made annual camping and fishing vacation to Brookings, Ore. – they liked it so much they decided to move to Brookings in 2007. Charles was very artistic. He mostly enjoyed Native American art and made many items from leather in that style. He also played guitar and loved to go fishing. Charles was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was proud of having achieved 20 years of sobriety. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Survivors include his wife Patricia of Brookings, Ore., daughters, Roseann Campana of San Diego, Calif., Monique Hernandez and her wife Debbie Hernandez of Brookings, Vienna Bergeron of Cathedral City, Calif., Melissa Bacerra and her husband Luis of Cathedral City, Calif., son, Bryan Bergeron and his wife, Jana of Brookings, fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren (and one more on the way), and a sister Eunice Trombly and her husband, Alan of West Chezy, New York.
