Obituary for Richard "Dick" H. Lamb
Richard H. “Dick Lamb passed away at his home in Brookings on June 14, 2012. He was 82. Dick, as his family and friends knew him, was born August 27, 1929 in Scotia, Calif. to Harold and Frances (Cross) Nulph. He grew up with his grandparents in Rio Dell, Calif. He then moved to Fortuna, Calif. where he was raised by his mother Frances and step-father Tom Lamb. He married Carolyn J. Crank in Fortuna, Calif. on June 13, 1948. Dick attended Humboldt State briefly, where he played football, before learning the carpentry trade from his father-in-law. He and Carolyn later moved to Fremont, Calif. where Dick worked as a carpenter and then as a Coca Cola delivery driver in the East Bay for 7 years. He later began what would be a 30 year career in the newspaper business. Starting with a newspaper distribution business and retiring as Circulation Manager for the Bay Area News Group in Livermore, Calif. After retirement, he and Carolyn purchased a 5th wheel and enjoyed traveling. They eventually moved to Brookings, Ore. in 1995 where they built their dream home. Dick and Carolyn enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved taking them to ocean and river to play. He was a master carpenter and throughout their life they bought “fixer-upper" homes and remodeled and redecorated them. He loved to go fishing on the ocean and on the Chetco River in Brookings with his buddies. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Carolyn, of Brookings, Ore., son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Carole Lamb of Fremont, Calif., son, Michael Lamb of Brookings, Ore., daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Michael Bruggeman of Brookings, Ore., grandchildren, Stephanie Minor her husband, David, Allison Thacker and Rachel Lamb, great grandchildren, Auden and Nadjia Minor. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father and daughter, Pamela. A celebration of life will be held later in the summer.
