Obituary for Shirley Lynn Hernandez
Shirley Lynn Hernandez, 87, of Brookings, Ore., passed away on June 1, 2015 at Good Samaritan nursing facility in Brookings, where she received loving care from the staff. Shirley was born on December 1, 1927 in Oakland, Calif. to James and Esther (Clark) Landreth. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and Northern California. She wanted to be a school teacher and had attended San Jose State College, but instead she became a wife, mother and homemaker while raising her children. In 1970, she met the love of her life, Modesto “Tito” Hernandez, they married in 1971. After living many years in Napa, Calif., they relocated to Acampo, Calif. where they managed a 400 acre vineyard ranch for over 20 years. These were their happiest years, where all of their children and grandchildren looked forward to visits and spending time with them. In 2005, Modesto passed away and Shirley moved to Brookings to be close to her daughter and family that same year. She later became a resident at SeaView, where she made many friends. Shirley enjoyed nature, the ocean, walks with her friend Jean, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her daughter Nancy Sagadin (Jim) of Brookings, sons, Jeff Dunham of Vallejo, Calif., Steve Garner (Brydee) of Bakersfield, Calif. and Scott Garner of Union City, Calif. Her grandchildren are Jason Sagadin and Nathan Sagadin both of Brookings, Brooke Garner of Bakersfield, Calif., Anthony Hernandez, currently stationed with US Marine Corps in Japan, Michael Hernandez, currently stationed with the US Air Force in Nebraska, three great granddaughters, Peyton, Piper and Emma Hernandez, niece Joan Severin of Bismarck, ND and nephew Bill Landreth of Carmel, Calif. In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Doug Landreth and her two beloved dogs, Dino and Oso. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
