Obituary for Evelyn L. (Morgan) Brown
Evelyn L. (Morgan) Brown Dec. 13, 1913 – May 12, 2011 Evelyn L. Brown passed away in a local care facility in Brookings on May 12, 2011. She was 97. Evelyn was born December 13, 1913 in Steedman, OK to Henry and Sarah (Cates) Morgan. She worked as a homemaker all of her life and was active in the VFW including having served as its president. She was also involved with Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, cooking, crocheting and dancing, even into her 80’s. She also loved flowers and being involved in the community. Evelyn moved to Brookings in 1955. Survivors include her companion of 30 years, Jim Bley of Brookings, son, Robert Dunaway and his wife, Mary of Manteca, CA, daughter, Doris Villarreal and her husband, Joe of San Leandro, CA, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren, sisters, LaWanda Burdette of Sonora, CA and Emma Noblitt of Tracy, CA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren. The family requested remembrances be made in lieu of flowers to the Disabled American Veterans. Viewing will be held at Redwood Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 3 to 5pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00am at First Community Baptist Church, 607 Pacific Ave. in Brookings. Dr. Ken Whitted will officiate. Interment will follow at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery. Refreshments will follow the interment at the Church.
