Obituary for Grace Margaret Van Eaton
Grace Margaret Van Eaton, aged to perfection at 100 years of age, passed away May 24, 2013 with her family by her side. Grace was born April 22, 1913 in Sentinel Butte ND. She married her husband, Elvin, Dec. 8, 1930 and moved around the country following “Van” through his construction work. They lived in Bandon prior to settling in Brookings in 1965 and purchasing a home. Grace remained & tended to that home, took care of herself, her yard and still drove, until her dying day. Grace spent her working years in retail in Bandon and in Brookings. She was quite the seamstress and would regularly sew her granddaughters their dresses and pajamas. She shared many stories with her family on her long life. She remembered everything, from being a small girl to events that happened a few days ago. She was a very classy lady and liked by all. She was always friendly, fun and very caring. Grace outlived her parents, Irvin & Nona Heisley, 9 siblings, her husband Van, who passed away in 1996, her daughter Joyce Raymond who passed away August 29, 2011 at age 77 and was also Grace’s daily companion, and her son Jimmie when he was 3 years old. She is survived by her 5 granddaughters, who absolutely adored her, Sheryl Davis, Deanna Evans, Marlene Clark, Susan Wehner, Dawn Guenther and their husbands, Bud Davis, Tyler Evans, Colin Clark and Carl Guenther. Grace also leaves 9 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. Grace was the core of the family and her granddaughters were constantly calling and visiting her. Her granddaughters always commented on what an amazing woman their Grandmother is. Family was her life. The way to care and love your family came from the top – it came from Grandma. We are blessed to be able to carry on her legacy of love & family values. We were her life, but she was ours. She was OUR Amazing Grace! We love you Grandma and you will be missed greatly. A celebration of Grace’s life will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St., in Brookings. A reception will follow there.
