Obituary for Vivian Elaine Wood
Vivian Elaine Wood, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Gold Beach, OR, with her husband, Richard Dale Wood, at her side on April 24, 2015. Vivian, who was lovingly known as Granny, was born on July 20, 1925, on her family’s ranch in Alpha, WA, to John and Agnes (Molthu) Curry. She grew up in Alpha, WA, where she attended a one-room school through 8th Grade, and high school in Onalaska, WA, where she met her high school sweetheart, Dale. Following high school, Vivian found work in the local dairy business, Darigold. She later worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” for the Boeing plant in Chehalis, WA, during World War II. Vivian and Dale were married on October 12, 1945. In April, 1950, the couple moved to Gold Beach, OR. Although Vivian spent most of her time as a homemaker, she also helped Dale with their business, Gold Beach Sand & Gravel. In 1966 they moved to Alaska and later worked together on the Alaska Pipeline. Vivian loved the outdoors, where many weekends were spent camping and picnicking as her children grew up. Her favorite pastime was fishing and hunting. Her pride and joy, though, was her family. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also loved to garden and work in her yard. Vivian loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Gold Beach Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband of nearly 70 years, Dale (Woody) of Gold Beach and Ninilchik, AK, daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Lowell Carter of Gold Beach, son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Rhea Wood of Healy, AK, seven grandchildren; Lisa (Carter) Kennedy, Bruce Carter, Gary Dean Carter, Angela Carter, Ambria (Wood) Saucier, Emilia (Wood) Muniz, and Eric Wood, ten great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Curry, daughter, JoAnn Wood, great grandson, Joshua Carter, and brothers, Newt and Kenneth Curry. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Sixth Street Baptist Church, 94301 Sixth Street, Gold Beach, OR.
