Obituary for Ralph E. Black, USN Ret.
Ralph E. Black, 73, of Brookings, passed away in Medford, Ore. on July 14, 2013 following a brief illness. Ralph was born July 15, 1939 in Hamtramck, Michigan to R.S. and Lillian (Glowczewski) Black. Following high school, Ralph entered the US Navy where he would serve as a hull technician during two wars, retiring after 20 years of service in 1978. On July 12, 1958, Ralph married Patricia Beatty in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. They lived in various locations, including Virginia, Hawaii, South Carolina, Washington and Las Vegas, NV, before moving to Brookings in 2008. Ralph and Pat enjoyed traveling and cruises, bowling and spending time with family – especially their annual family camping trips with their grandchildren. Survivors include Patricia, his wife of 55 years of Brookings, children, Karen Severin and her husband, Joe of Henderson, Nev., Ralph Black and his wife, Chantal of Bowser, BC, Canada, Susen Bryant of Pousbo, Wash., Brenda Grau and her husband Mike of Spokane, Wash., Jeffrey Black of Spokane, Wash., ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sister Lucille Curran of Anaheim, Ca, brother, Donald Black and his wife, Aurie of Arvada, Co. and Edith Deavan of San Antonio, Tex. Ralph was preceded in death by a brother, Robert and granddaughters, Stephanie Grau and Elyzabeth Berg. He was a loving husband, Dad, Granpa, Great Granpa and brother. And will be missed by all.
