Obituary for Raymond Christian Weber
Ray was born in the Lutheran Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Kathrine (Pippert) Weber and Christian Weber, the youngest of four children born to the couple. Kathrine was a Registered Nurse, the youngest at that time to receive certification in the State of Pennsylvania. Christian Weber was born in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated before WWI. He was a furniture finisher. Ray’s mother died when he was one year old. His maternal aunt raised him and his siblings until the age of five. At that time his father placed him and his two sisters in an orphanage. He only saw his father when Christian was called to the orphanage to punish his some for some wrongdoing. Ray was a very naughty child, so he saw his father often. Ray stayed in the orphanage until he was 12 when during WWII he was shipped to Pennsylvania to live with a maternal uncle. After the war he returned to California where he resided with his father until his father died. Ray then at the age of 17 enlisted in what was then called the Army Air Corps (later changed to Air Force). His enlistment was extended due to the Korean Conflict. Ray was a Staff Sergeant in the 5001st Supply Squadron. While in the service, Ray was offered the opportunity to attend West Point as the next class was short cadets. He was disqualified due to his irregular education. He would have made an excellent General as proved later by his business acumen and could be attested to by all of his employees. He earned his degree in Accounting after his release from the service. At the time of his retirement he was the business manager of the largest volume Mazda dealership in the world. When released from the Service he returned to California. There he married and had two sons: Jeffrey and Michael. That union ended in a divorce in 1965. In 1970 he met and married Glenda Lovell Weber who survives him. There were no children from this marriage, but their greatest joy was two little Poodles named Maxie and Cessili who accompanied them everywhere. Upon retirement, Ray and Glenda moved to Crescent City where they lived for 9 years; they then moved to Grants Pass, Oregon to be closer to family. In 2006 they returned to the coast and lived in Brookings, Oregon, where Ray passed away. Ray fought his cancer bravely for 4 ½ years. He succumbed to multiple myeloma attended by his wife Glenda and their mini doxie “Little Girl”. Ray is survived by his wife of almost 40 years Glenda Lovell Weber, son Jeffrey Weber, nephew Robert Weber, niece Cathy Burchett, sisters-in-law Janice Stafford and Dianne Lovell, nieces Jamie Bigley and husband Mark, Jill Oveson and husband Rich. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Christian and Kathrine Weber, older brother Wayne Weber, sisters Kathrine Gordon and Marion Zumbrook, and his son Michael Weber. No services will be held at Ray’s request.
