Obituary for Dorothy Louise "Dottie" Doane
Dorothy Louise “Dottie” Doane of Brookings died July 18, 2019 at her home from advanced vascular dementia.
Dottie was born February 28, 1930 in Eugene, Oregon, to Isabelle and Arthur Bradley Wolcott. Dottie graduated from Eugene high School in 1949. Her dearest friend Joyce Evans went through school with her from first grade on and remained a friend throughout her life. During her childhood she thoroughly enjoyed working with her Dad, raising their own beef, pork and chicken as well as working a big vegetable garden, complete with berries, grapes and more. These things continued to be her fondest memories.
Shortly after graduation, her family bought Marian Street Market in North Bend, OR. Dottie worked at both Rexall Drug and payless Drug after high school until she met her first husband, David Satterlee Sr., and they were married June 7, 1953.
Dottie was instrumental in the ownership and operation of the family businesses including Marion Street Market, North Bend; Davy jones Locker, Charleston; Mohawk General Store, Mohawk; Al & Bertie’s Supermarket, Powers; and finally, Mom’s Café in Brookings, OR. During her time in Powers, she loved being involved in civic organizations, including the moose lodge, Powers Library Board, PTA, and the Cruisers Football Booster Club in Powers. She moved to Brookings in 1974.
She met and married Darwin Douglas “Doug’ Doane January 1, 1980; she then lived the life of her dreams, being a devoted housewife. She loved being a founding member of the Curry County Cruisers car club and served as Secretary for many years while showing their antique cars in various shows. Dottie loved her gardens, her home and her family. Dottie was proud to have developed a beautiful rose garden on her property. She will be remembered for her work with civic organizations, her gardens, and her passion for loving people with her beautiful smile and effervescent hospitality.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband. Dottie is survived by her son David Satterlee Jr. of Brookings and daughter Diane Grant of Coquille. Dottie loved her grandchildren: Nicole Samhammer, Crystal Cooper and Jason Satterlee, but the apple of her eye was her great-grandbaby Alivia Satterlee! Also surviving are her brother James Wolcott and his wife Nan of Springfield and various nieces and nephews.
