Obituary for Jeffrey John Wieneke
Jeffrey J. Wieneke
Feb. 12, 1945 – Jan. 3, 2019

Jeffrey J. Wieneke passed away peacefully at Azalea Gardens in Brookings, Oregon. Jeff was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico to Barbara and John Wieneke and was one of the first “atomic” babies born in the government’s top-secret community. He grew up and attended school in Los Alamos.

In 1951, the family bought property in Pojoaque, New Mexico where they built an adobe residence. Jeff loved this time exploring the territory around his new home with a new friend. While there, he went to school in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In 1957 his father left his job in the Los Alamos Laboratory and accepted employment with Hughes Aircraft’s Nuclear Research Division in Culver City, California. Jeff then attended school in Palos Verdes Estates and graduated with the first graduating class of the new Palos Verdes High School. Upon graduation, he attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where he was active in their ROTC program. He graduated from Sacramento State and then joined the army and spent two years serving his country in Vietnam. Upon his return home, he was employed at NORCO in Corona, California, as a computer specialist. Following his retirement Jeff moved to Brookings, Oregon.

Surviving relatives are his mother, Barbara Wieneke, of Brookings and sister, Patricia J. Rodke, of Willow Creek, California.

No services are planned. If one wishes to make a memorial contribution, please make a donation to our local South Coast Animal Shelter.
