Obituary for Joseph Patrick Donahue
Joseph Patrick Donahue, 74, of Brookings, Oregon, died July 18, 2018 at Sutter Coast Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born December 14, 1943, in Townsend, Montana to James and Alma Donahue. He graduated with an agricultural engineering degree from Montana State College in Bozeman, Montana. Joe worked for the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. This took him from Montana to Wyoming, New Mexico, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. Retirement brought him to Brookings, Oregon. Survivors include Helen, his wife of 48 years; sons Michael and wife Eileen, and Stephen and wife Joanna. His 8 grandchildren, Graham, Samuel, Abram, Conner, Jillian, Timothy, Mary and Lauren were his pride and joy. He is also survived by two sisters, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews. Wherever Joe lived, he became an important part of the community through his many volunteer organizations. He was an active member of Lions for 30 years, receiving many awards. He enjoyed trail work, outdoor activities and acting in the local theater. A celebration of life was held Sunday July 22nd at Brookings Presbyterian Church. There will be a family gathering in Montana later. Memorials may be made to the Brookings Harbor Community Theater, any local community kitchen church program, or please volunteer at an organization of your choice to honor Joe, the consummate volunteer. Joe wrote something many years ago, “Please do not grieve me, but celebrate our lives together. Have a party in my honor.” We will try to not grieve, but we will always miss him.
