Dr. Gordon (Gordy) Myrah, a Lutheran minister and 42-year resident of Brookings, Oregon, died

Gordy was born in Racine, Wisconsin, on June 28, 1948. He graduated from Sun Prairie High
School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1966, where he was senior class president. He went on to
the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where he met Diane McKeith and majored in
Biology. In 1971, he married Diane and they then went on to Wartburg Theological Seminary in
Dubuque, Iowa, where he graduated in 1975 as student body president. After ordination, he
went on to serve Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cathlamet, Washington for five years. They
then moved to Brookings in 1980 where he became the minister of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In 1994, he received his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary
in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The focus of his study was archeology relating to the life and times
of Jesus.  During his four year study, he traveled to Israel where he worked on underwater
archeology.

retirement he was a volunteer at the Curry County Sherriff’s Department; and he was involved
in various other activities and organizations throughout the community. His hobbies included
fishing, hunting and travel.

As the minister of Trinity Lutheran Church he often said he “served 31 years to the glory of
God,” and he oversaw countless weddings, baptisms, funerals and confirmations. He was
instrumental in building the new sanctuary at the church in 2003. Many local ministers
respected him and loved him as a friend.
