Obituary for Mark Oscar Bonner
Mark Oscar Bonner March 21, 1939 – January 5, 2017
Mark Oscar Bonner passed from this world, 5 January 2017, at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, California. He was 77 years old. He was born 21 March 1939 in Crandall, Clarke Co., Mississippi, the youngest child of Grady Lee Bonner and Audie Jane Smith.
The family moved to California in the early 1940’s, his Dad working in the logging industry. Mark attended schools in Westwood, California, Tennant, California, and graduated high school in Yreka, California. Mark was a pipefitter by trade and worked 40 years with Diamond International. During that 40 years, the company changed names seven times, being Pactiv when he retired. During his work tenure he was active in UPIU 1876, representing his union brothers and sisters as financial secretary, working hard for good contracts on the negotiating committees and also as union president. He was always known for his fine character and no nonsense attitude. He also served, as president, on two Tehama County Grand Juries. He attended North Valley Baptist Church on David Avenue in Red Bluff, California, raising his children to know our Lord and Savior.
Mark is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bobette Bonner, of Brookings, Oregon; son Bruce Bonner (Sherryl) of Redding, California; daughter Barbara Carlisle of Carpinteria, California; stepson Isaac Jones (Patricia) of Chico, California. There are 8 wonderful grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, a very special nephew, Randy McCuen of Yuba City, California, and a very special niece, Lesley Cooke from Blaine, Washington.
Mark was predeceased by his parents Grady Lee and Audie Jane Bonner and all of his siblings: Ruby Bonner, Grady Lee Jr., Patricia Ann Cooke and Opal Favero.
Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying! He especially enjoyed being captain of his fine vessel, CLOUD NINE, with first mate, Rex Trout.
Mark will be interred March 25, 2017 in Corning, California. A celebration of his life will begin at 12 noon on that day at the Union Hall in Red Bluff, California. All friends and co-workers are invited to attend.
As the representative for our family, and his wife, we will never forget all the kindnesses we received on his behalf. Thank you just doesn’t seem to be a big enough word. You will all be forever in our hearts.
