Obituary for Doris Lorraine Turner
Doris (Carpenter) Turner, 94, passed away on December 25, 2019 in Gold Beach. She was the widow of William Turner. They were married for 68 years. Doris was born in Gold Beach, Oregon on December 27, 1924, the daughter of Asa and Pauline Carpenter. Doris and her family were true Curry County pioneers.
She graduated from Gold Beach Union High School then attended the Portland Business College. When she returned to Curry County, Doris worked at several places before being hired at the local bank. After many years in the banking business she retired from Western Bank. She belonged to Nesika/Ophir Neighborhood Watch, Gold Beach Senior Center, Gold Beach Order of the Moose, Brookings Emblem Club, Curry County Elections Board and was a lifetime member of Soroptimist International. She loved having her family visit. She enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by son Robert (Debbie) and family of Lebanon, Oregon and son James (Debbie) and family of Gold Beach, Oregon; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and her cat, Speedy. She was predeceased by her husband, William Turner in 2014; granddaughter Hope Bennett and 2 infant daughters.
A memorial was held on December 28, 2019 at the Ophir Fire Hall in Nesika Beach. Doris had planned and looked forward to celebrating her 95th birthday with everyone in the community on that day, but her Lord had another plan. Her family and her friends were there to honor her and celebrate her life. The Fire Hall was overflowing with guests. A graveside service was held at Pistol River Cemetery at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019.
