Obituary for Wilma L. (Miller) Richmond
Wilma L. (Miller) Richmond passed away at her home in Gold Beach on July 19, 2012. She was 89. Wilma was born November 23, 1922 in Picher, Oklahoma to William and Edith (Tappana) Miller. She grew up in Missouri, working in the parachute factories in Joplin during WWII. On September 19, 1941, she married Ralph Richmond in Jasper, Missouri. Wilma moved to California where Ralph was finishing his service in the US Navy. They later moved to Santa Clara, Calif. where Wilma worked as a school secretary for the Santa Clara County School District for 22 years. In 1975, she and Ralph purchased the Ireland’s Rustic Lodges in Gold Beach. They moved to Gold Beach in 1977 where they would operate the Lodge until retiring in 2005. Wilma was a member of TOPS, Friends of the Library, the Ophir Woman’s Club, the First Baptist Church in Gold Beach for 37 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading and playing card games. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Ralph of Gold Beach, sons, Ralph Richmond, Jr and his wife, Cheryl of Coos Bay, William Richmond and his wife, Terrie Lee of Gold Beach; daughters, Alice Kelley and Linda Nicosia, both of Santa Clara, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, one brother and two sisters. Wilma was preceded in death by her grandson, Jimmy Mac Kelley, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, PO Box 850, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, 29755 Turner Street in Gold Beach.
