William W. “Bill” Alsop July 5, 1935 – April 28, 2016
William W. “Bill” Alsop, 80, of Brookings, passed away in Gold Beach, Ore. on April 28, 2016.
Bill or "Papa" as family and friends knew him, was born July 5, 1935 in Salinas, Calif. to Raymond and Margaret (Clark) Alsop. He served in the US Army for four years. Bill worked as a bus driver for Greyhound for nearly 30 years. He married Ima “Louise” Alsop in Reno, Nev. in 1980. They moved to Brookings in 2011. Bill enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and traveling in he and Louise’s RV.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ima “Louise” Alsop of Brookings; children, Linda Chavez of Santa Cruz, Calif., Jack “Butch” Rice of Santa Cruz, Calif., Jim Rice of Santa Cruz Caif., Brenda Nash of Brookings, Jerald Rice of Brookings, John Rice of Arkansas, David Rice of Brookings, Ronnie Alsop of San Luis Obisps, Calif., Billy Alsop of Stella, Missouri, and Susan Leblanc of Houston, Tex., 38 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, brothers, David and Phillip Alsop, sisters, Judy Daniels and Linda Miller. Bill was preceded in death by both parents Raymond & Margaret Alsop and a brother, Arthur Alsop.
A private ceremony will be held for family. Burial at sea will be conducted by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
