Obituary for William O. Hoskinson Sr.
William O. “Bill” Hoskinson, Sr. July 25, 1924 – March 29, 2016
William O. “Bill” Hoskinson, Sr., 91, of Gold Beach, passed away in Gold Beach on March 29, 2016.
Bill was born July 25, 1924 in Woodsfield, Ohio, one of nine children to Oliver and Laura (Stewart) Hoskinson. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He served nearly 21 years in the Navy and Naval reserve being honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following his military service, Bill went to work for the FAA as an air traffic controller. He did that for many years having the privilege of being the first controller to utilize a computer to carry out his duties. Bill married Margaret Ann Lennon on November 24, 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida. They lived in various locations including Ohio, California and Oregon, moving to Gold Beach in 2010. Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling, writing, playing card games and he loved to dance. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Mount Olive Church Society, and was active with the Brookings Harbor Theater and the Chetco Activity Center.
Survivors include his children William O. Hoskinson, Jr. of Maui, Hawaii, Judith Weisser and her husband, Michael of Sauk Center, Minn., Stewart Hoskinson and his wife, Terri of Gold Beach, Ore.; granddaughter, Ariel Hoskinson of Gold Beach. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, and eight siblings.

Bill’s cremated remains will be buried at sea with military honors by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
