Obituary for William "Dutch" F. Daut
William F. “Dutch” Daut, III, 76, passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on July 6, 2015. Dutch, as he was known by family and friends, was born November 29, 1938 in Baker, Ore. to William, II and Lila (Myers) Daut. He earned a Master’s degree in Microbiology. Dutch lived in Portland from 1977 to 2004. He later moved to Wyoming and then to Brookings in 2015. Dutch married Jan on October 28, 2005 in Rock Springs, Wyo. Dutch spent much of his career as a wine merchant; he loved and knew his wine and taught his friends and family how to recognize quality vintages. He was a lover of nature - animals, birds, insects. He also loved to travel and was able to take a “bucket list” trip to Africa in 2013. Dutch loved the ocean and fishing - he enjoyed making his own flies and fishing rods. He won the senior winter Olympics in 2012 for snowshoeing. Survivors include his wife, Jan Daut of Brookings, son, Bill Webb and his wife Krista of Poulsbo, Wash., grandchildren, Jillian and John. He is also survived by stepchildren, John, Jennifer and Julie and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David C. Daut. During his final days, Dutch would repeat the same line over and over: “The moral of the story is…” – we will never know until we see you again. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
