William “Bill” Fritch was born February 14, 1918 in Anaconda, Montana. He moved to Mt. Angel when he was 16 years old to apprentice at the Benedictine Press. He worked as a linotype operator for The Oregonian in Portland for many years and for the Tacoma News Tribune for 20 years before retiring and relocating to Portland. In 1998 he and his wife moved to Gold Beach to be near their family. Bill was preceded in death by Marjorie, his wife of 63 years. He is survived by his son Ronald and his wife, Janet; four granddaughters, Michele Fritch, Debbie Collins, Laurie Herrera and Leslie Fritch, all of Gold Beach; and by five great-grandchildren, Lance and Zackery Collins of Florida, Raquel Carpenter, and Nicole and Alex Herrera of Gold Beach. Bill spent his last five years as a resident of Shore Pines Assisted Living Community. The family would like to thank the residents and staff for their loving care. Thanks also to the wonderful staff at Curry Hospice. Remembrances may be made to Curry Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 746, Gold Beach, OR 97444.
