Obituary for William "Bill" Fletcher
William “Bill” Fletcher passed away at his home in Pistol River on December 23, 2012. He was 83. Bill was born February 28, 1929 in Superior, Neb. to Leslie and Thelma (McHenry) Fletcher. His family moved west to southern California when he was a boy. He began his career in the telephone industry as a lineman. In 1950, Bill became the first Pacific Telephone and Telegraph employee to be granted military leave when he joined the US Air Force. He served from 1950 to 1954. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Bill returned to his position with PT&T in El Monte, Calif. He later transferred to Orange County where he worked his way up to Sales Manager before retiring in 1978. Bill married Linda Rockhold Brown in Phoenix, Ariz. on May 19, 1975. In June of 1993, they moved to Pistol River where they built their dream home. Bill enjoyed living on the southern Oregon coast. He loved to patronize small, local businesses in the community and was very social with everyone he met. Bill loved working with wood and restoring old cars. He was a proud member of the NRA and was a life member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Pistol River, daughters, Janice Johns of The Woodlands, Tex., Kimberley Orme and her husband, Alan of Fresno, Calif., grandchildren, Christopher, Erin, Miles, Sophia, Vanessa and her husband, Bobby, great grandchildren, Cooper, Alexa, Fletcher, and Sawyer, sister, Phyllis Gibbons of Fallbrook, Calif. Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Kraft. At Bill’s request, no ceremony will be held. Cremation was held at Redwood Memorial Crematory in Brookings.
