Obituary for Wendeline J. Bernhardt
Wendeline J. Bernhardt, 56, of Brookings, passed away in Medford, Ore. on August 10, 2015. Wendeline was born March 21, 1959 in Belvedere, Calif., her parents having immigrated from Holland only three months earlier. She grew up in southern California. Wendeline went on to earn her Master’s in Education and spent much of her career as a teacher. Wendeline married Phil Bernhardt on February 5, 2010 in Brookings. They had moved to Brookings in 2001 from Half Moon Bay, Calif. She loved working with natural fibers including carding and spinning fleece and making her own yarn. Wendeline enjoyed monthly trips to the wool factory in Langlois where she met with others to work with natural fibers. She was also an accomplished watercolor artist and was involved with the Manley Art Center in Brookings. Among Wendeline’s other hobbies were beading and gardening. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include her husband, Phil of Brookings; stepsons, Bob Berhnardt of Grants Pass, Ore. and Bret Bernhardt of Brookings; mother, Johanna Stoffers of Garden Grove, Calif.; brother, Ron Stoffers of Pasadena, Calif.; grandchildren, Alyssa, Patrick, Nicholas, Alexander, Zoe, Jaden and Madeline; niece, Clair and nephew, Matthew. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at WJ Ward Memorial Cemetery, 1035 7th St. in Brookings. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1208 Ransom Ave. in Brookings. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
