Obituary for Verden Wayne Wheeler
Verden Wayne Wheeler, 91 of Harbor, Oregon passed away August 17th. He was born of pioneer stock to Halvor Cecil and Hazle Alzada Wheeler on May 29th, 1924 in Pleasant Hill, Oregon where he graduated from high school and was the quarterback on the football team. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 7th, 1942 and flew on many bombing missions with 460th Bombardment Group. He married his beloved wife, Lois Ann Oviatt in 1952 and moved to Harbor, Oregon where they started a family and lived for over 60 years. Verden worked in the wood products industry for over 40 years, retiring in 1990 as a Plant Manager for Miller Rellim Co. in Crescent City, California. Lois died unexpectedly on April 28th, 2013. Verden was devastated but continued on living independently, growing marvelous vegetable gardens, painting his house and roofing his woodshed, just this summer. He never saw work as something he had to do, but rather as something he got to do. He lived simply, was perpetually positive and found no need to complain. His example will guide those he leaves behind for the rest of their lives. Verden is survived by his sons Wayne and Jon Wheeler both of Springfield. Grandchildren Drew and Austin Wheeler of Eugene and Sarah, Dylan and Jackson Wheeler all of Springfield. Sisters, Gwen Miller of Coos Bay, Carol Blakely of Eugene and Celia Wheeler of Pleasant Hill. Verden enjoyed the support and admiration of his many friends and neighbors who watched out for him and will miss his constant presence working in his yard. At his request no service is planned.
