Obituary for Ted O. Shields
Ted Shields passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on October 12, 2012. He was 77. Ted was born September 29, 1935 in Parsons, Kan., one of seven children to Roy and Gladys (Hughes) Shields. He spent his childhood there until, after high school, he came out to California. Ted began a career in the timber industry working in plywood mills. He married Josephine Pilat on August 16, 1956 in Ukiah, Calif. They moved to Brookings in 1965 where Ted finished his career with Brookings Plywood. He retired in the late 1990’s. Ted enjoyed playing golf and was previously a member of the Del Norte Golf Club. He also like hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include Josephine “Jo” Shields, his wife of 56 years of Brookings, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Todd Evanow of Harbor, grandchildren, Jasper Evanow, Jamie Evanow and Kenny Keever and Jessica Evanow and SP Swick, great grandchildren, Aaliah Swick, Bon and Peyton Keever and Chase Evanow. Ted was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and David and a great granddaughter, Maliah Swick. A graveside service will be held at 3:30pm today Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery, 1035 7th St. in Brookings. Interment will follow there. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
