Obituary for Tatiana Lind
Tatiana “Tanya” Lind went home to her Lord on July 11, 2014 at the age of 90. She was a longtime resident of Lompoc, Calif. After suffering a fall with serious complications in her home in December, and being hospitalized in Lompoc for a couple of months, she moved to Macklyn Place in Brookings, Ore. in order to be close to her two daughters during her extended recovery. Tatiana adjusted well to her new home in Brookings, but suddenly fell ill. Born to Russian immigrants on December 27, 1923 in Bethlehem, Penn., Tatiana Adamchik grew up in the rolling hills of rural Pennsylvania on the family farm along with her three sisters (named after the daughters of Czar Nicholas II), Anastasia, Olga and Maria. Her father, Michael Adamchik, a steel mill worker, died at an early age, leaving his wife, Serafima, and their four daughters to manage the farm. The family was blessed by a strong affiliation with the Russian Orthodox Church and the bountiful yield of the farm. Moving to New York City to work as a secretary after graduating Lehigh High School, Tatiana was named “Miss Subway” after a photographer displayed her picture in his studio. While working in New York, she met and fell in love with a Merchant Marine Academy Cadet, Jack Oberg Lind, the only son of Acton and Ruby Lind of Ogden, Utah, at a USO dance in 1940. They married after he received his commission in the Navy. Their marriage was blessed with their first child, Michael. Shortly afterward, the family moved to San Francisco and Tatiana bore two daughters, Constance and Christine. Tatiana’s office skills served her well as partner and support for Jack O. Lind, Inc., a construction company specializing in residential and commercial buildings, owners and operators of JacOLin Preschools in San Jose and later numerous property investments. After many years and many friendships in the Bay area, Jack and Tatiana retired to the quiet life in Lompoc. There the couple became prolific readers, avid golfers and long-term members and supporters of the Lompoc Country Club and several local charities. Their love of travel, golf and exploring new places led Tatiana and Jack to tour the United States and parts of Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. After Jack’s unexpected death in 1990, Tatiana continued to live in Lompoc and occasionally travel around the world. Tatiana is survived by her three children: Michael Acton Lind, Constance Lind and Christine Ricketts, her granddaughter, Stacey Erin Lind, her daughter-in-law, Sharon Lind, her sister, Anastasia Symanovich and seven nieces and nephews. Tatiana was a strong, kind and gentle soul, with a great sense of humor and a generous disposition. She will be greatly missed. At Tatiana’s request, a private family service will be conducted. She will join her husband, Jack, at sea. The family would like to extend special thanks to Macklyn Place staff and Coastal Home Health and Hospice who so generously gave our mother their love and comfort in her last days.
