Obituary for Stephen Lyle Cain
Stephen L. Cain September 30, 1954 – March 14, 2016
Stephen Lyle “Steve” Cain, age 61 of Brookings, went home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2016. He was born September 30, 1954 in Seattle, WA to Marge Cain and was raised by his grandparents Frank and Margaret Cain.
The family came to Brookings in 1955 when Steve was 9 months old. He grew up loving the outdoors: going up-river, camping, fishing, beachcombing and clamming. Steve graduated from Brookings Harbor High School in 1972. He bought his grandfather’s plywood share in 1974 and worked there for a few years. In 1981 he went to work for Stampers Tire which became Les Schwab Tires. He worked there for 35 years and enjoyed working with customers, doing sales and service.
He was married Aug. 17, 1974 in Brookings to Kathie Kendall. Early in their marriage, he often spent weekends maintaining the logging truck belonging to her father, Richard Kendall. Together he and Kathie raised four boys, enjoyed family time, BBQ’s and horseshoes. Steve was also an avid video-gamer. Along with Joe Gastonguay and Jim Cain, he started the Curry County Cruisers car club, and spent time restoring vintage automobiles. He enjoyed spending time at his home away from home, Harbor Logging with his many great friends. Steve was a loving husband, father, papa, brother and son. His family and friends always came first for him. He sacrificed much for all of those he loved. There will never be another like him.
Steve is survived by his wife Kathie of Brookings, sons Jason (Allison), Justin (Julia), Kevin & Chris; siblings Johnny & Sheri Morando, brother-in-law Leonard Peterson, nieces & nephews Leslie Peterson, Richard & Ryan Wintersteen, Debbie & Lorrie Cain, Duane Thomas and Diane, Susie, Leah & Brandie Bond; grandchildren Kalise, Audrey, Daisha & Preston. He was preceded in death by his mother Marge Cain-Morando, grandparents Frank & Margaret Cain, siblings Jimmy Morando, Jim Cain, Alice Bond & Fran Arlenson, In-laws Richard & June Kendall, sister-in-law Karen Peterson, nephew Ladia Schmidt and his favorite dog “Duke”.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday March 19th at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 518 Fir Street in Brookings. Memorial donations are suggested to deletebloodcancer.org and made in honor Steve.
