Obituary for Sharon Ione Westbury
Sharon I. Westbury, 72, of Brookings, passed away in Crescent City, Calif. on January 6, 2013. Sharon was born September 4, 1940 in Walla Walla, Wash. to Orval and Alice (Gillock) Evans. She grew up there and in Woodland, Calif. Sharon held various jobs with the state of California and spent some time in England before returning and marrying William “Bill” Westbury, Jr. on December 25, 1964 in Seattle, Wash. They moved to Brookings from Sacramento, Calif. in 1989 where Sharon worked briefly as a clerk for the Pelican Bay State Prison. Sharon was active in the Brookings Emblem Club for more than 18 years including having served as its President. She loved sewing and embroidery. She also enjoyed traveling including a recent trip to Hawaii. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Bill Westbury of Brookings, daughter Sherie Lynn Westbury and son, David Westbury; brothers, Phillip Ruffcorn-Reich of Athena, Ore. and James Ruffcorn of Prescott, Wash., sisters, Dianne Herron of Brookings and Patricia Mayberry of Touchet, Wash. and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Dollar and Marie Popp and a brother-in-law, Butch Herron. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookings Emblem Club, PO Box 200, Brookings, OR 97415. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Brookings Elks Lodge #1934, 800 Elk Drive in Brookings. The Emblem Club will provide a reception there following the service.
