Obituary for Sabina Volk Grove
Sabina Volk Grove September 28, 1926 - July 3, 2011 Sabina Volk Grove, 84, of Harbor, departed this world, Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Brookings, OR in the presence of her beloved husband, children and grandchildren. Sabina was born September 28, 1926 in Scott, Saskatchewan to John and Magdalena Volk, immigrants from Odessa, Ukraine. She grew up on the Canadian prairie. Her first occupation as a young adult was a brief term as a prairie school house teacher. She attended nursing school in Victoria, British Columbia and after nursing there for two years she moved to Long Beach, California. She worked as a registered nurse until shortly after her marriage. On May 21, 1959 she married Charles Grove and they began a loving and happy marriage, being blessed with four children. She spent most of her child-raising years in northern Idaho, then moved to south-western Oregon in 1981. Sabina was a stay-at-home mom, keeping an impeccable household, and raising her four children with gentle firmness, encouraging them in all their endeavors as their biggest fan. She loved to sew and read and listen to good classical music. Sabina is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles Grove, Harbor; her daughter Becky Schafer and husband Rob of Gold Beach, along with grandchildren Sam, Joe and Maggy Schafer, her daughter Valerie Cowan and husband Pete of Brookings along with grandchildren Ben, Gemma, Shanon Cowan and Ann and Royal Sybrandt, her son Stanley Grove of Lander, Wyoming. In addition she is survived by siblings, Genevieve Volk Wangler, Irene Volk Carscadden, Edward Volk and Larry Volk all of Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Katherine Grove. Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 and the funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 pm Friday, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Brookings. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery, east of Reedsport will follow on Saturday, at 11 am.
