Obituary for Ruth R. Holt
Ruth R. (Werner) Holt Feb. 23, 1916 - Jan. 10, 2011 Ruth R. Holt passed away in Gold Beach on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at the age of 94. Ruth was born February 23, 1916 in Meadow Grove, NE, one of ten children to Frederick and Lena (Linderman) Werner. She had a wonderful childhood growing up on the large family farm, where her father was a gentleman farmer and weekend horse-trader. During her high school years, she played the violin on the local radio station and upon graduation, enrolled in nursing school. Deciding school was not for her and during the height of WWII, she migrated to sunny California and landed a job working in civilian production where she met Harold Holt, the production supervisor for her section. The two began what would be a 46-year love story when they wed in Las Vegas, NV on October 20, 1945. They moved to Madras, OR where they were in the hotel business and raised ladina clover for racehorses. They later moved to Downey, CA where Harold worked for McCleskey Varnish Co as a plant engineer and where both discovered the fine art of real-estate. Following his retirement, they returned to Oregon, settling in Grants Pass in 1976. In 1990, Harold and Ruth moved to Harbor, and following Harold’s death in 1991, Ruth then moved to Gold Beach. Ruth was an accomplished artist and enjoyed oil painting and other arts and crafts. She also liked to garden and was involved in the Lutheran Church. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Cronberger and granddaughter Candy Cronberger, both of Gold Beach, great grandchildren, Holly (Ford) Maxwell and her husband, Chris of Newberg, OR and US Navy MASA Tyler Ewalt, currently stationed in Sicily, Italy. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1991, son-in-law, William Cronberger in 2009 and all 9 of her brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Curry Health Foundation, PO Box 1274, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A private family interment service was held at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach where Ruth was laid to rest. A special thank you to Curry County Home Hospice and Shore Pines Assisted Living, for the wonderful care provided Ruth during her time there.
