Obituary for Ruth Naomi McMillan
Ruth Naomi McMillan Ruth McMillan died July 6, 2010 in Brookings, Oregon at a care home. She was born December 21, 1923, to Elder Theodore Ludwig Thuelmer and Carlena Johanna Huetter, in Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon. Growing up Ruth worked with her Pastor father, typing his sermons and singing in church and on the radio. After she married Oscar Lee McMillan (Mack) Ruth lived in Crescent City for over 30 years, as a homemaker. The family remembers her as an especially good camper and cook on family outings to Shasta Lake. During those Crescent City years, with the help of her family, Ruth made redwood novelty trucks which she sold to novelty shops up and down the coast as far as San Francisco. The earnings from this enterprise helped to fund her children’s school and college expenses. At retirement she and her husband, Mack, moved to Rogue River, Oregon where they lived out in the country on their “ranch” for about 25 years. After her husband died in 1993, she lived alone for 15 years and finally came back to Crescent City to be closer to her family. She was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist. Her late husband, Mack, joined her in some of her outreach work, contributing to orphans overseas. For quite a few years she also provided spiritual material to all the motels in the Del Norte County area and funded mailings to friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, Oscar Lee McMillan, brothers, Robert Wilford Thuemler, Barnard Martin Thuemler, Oscar Theodore Thuemler, Harold Carl Thuelmer, sisters, Louise Hannah Thuelmer, Ruth Thuelmer, and Gertrude Thuemler, brother-in-law Charles Bruce Campbell, sisters-in-law Eva Gertrude Campbell Thuemler, Mavis Ione Bailey Thuemler, Judith Diana Sondergard Thuemler, Reta Theresa Obrien Thuemler, LaVerne Ellen Markwart Thuemler, son-in-law, Robert Arden Nichols and many nephews and nieces.
