Obituary for Ruth Gold
Ruth Everton Gold Ruth Gold, 99, of Brookings died July 5, 2017 at her home. She was born in Logan, Utah on November 30, 1917 to Walter M. Everton and Laura P. Knowles. She graduated from Logan High School. Ruth married Lawrence (Gus) Gold on March 18, 1937, and they had 10 children. They were married 67 years and he passed away in Brookings in 2000. In 1947, she was the Queen Mother for the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She instilled a great love of learning in all of her children by surrounding them with the classics and good music. She made sure that all of her children had music lessons even though money was “tight”. The children played violin, cello, piano, flute, trumpet, and tuba and always put on a great Christmas concert for the family on each Christmas Eve. Ruth had a great love for children and she had been known as “Grandma Gold” to all of the children in her church and the children in her neighborhood. She always passed out goodies to all of her “adopted” grandchildren whenever they dropped by her home or when she saw them at church. She also loved to sew, quilt, cook, and entertain. Ruth sang in the Tabernacle Choir. She also did a lot of solo work and sang in small groups in various venues. One of the highlights of her life is when she participated in and sang a solo in the Messiah that was performed by a community choir in Brookings. Survivors include five children: Judy McCleery of Snowflake, Arizona; Nick Gold of Taylorsville, Utah; Loretta Tucker of Oro Valley, Arizona, Suzanne (Sue) Gold of Brookings, Oregon; and Harold Gold of Parker, Colorado. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. A viewing will be held at the LDS Church, 775 Elk Drive, Brookings, Oregon at 9AM on Thursday July 13, and the funeral service will be held after that at 10AM.
