Obituary for Russell "Grandpa" Shea
Our beloved grandfather, Russell Shea, passed away on November 28, 2012. He was born on August 24, 1917 to Jack and Bertha Shea in Kent, Washington. His kind and loving spirit set a wonderful example for all who knew him, and he will be forever missed. He was married to Betty Grush in 1947 and became a parent to her two children, Jim and Jack. They were married for 45 happy years, living most of their married life in Brookings. Russ held several jobs in the timber industry, but his favorite job was as a shovel operator, loading logs. It was a challenging job that he enjoyed. Grandchildren began arriving in the 1950’s and continued throughout the years as great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were born and adopted into the family. All were deeply loved, and as he never forgot what it was like to be young, they came to see him as a friend as well as a grandparent. He had spent his time traveling, rock hounding and watching the Mariners Baseball team. He attended a game in 2001 on his 84th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and two sons, Jim and Jack Grush. He is survived by grandchildren Teri & Ken Wold, Tami & Bob Waterston, Shawnee & Paul Cobb, Skip & Dawna Grush, Tonya Grush & Irene Papke, Vince & Serena Strauss, Bob Grush & Marsha Grush, Michelle Grush, Larry Cecil, Anita & Tom Fogarty & Russell Grush. Great Grandchildren are Misty & Brandon, Dusty & Ashley, Cory, Tiffany & Shayne, Charlie, Jessica & Damen, Nolan & Sheena, Betty & Mark, Jim, Laura & Billy, Curtis, Ken & Emily, Kelli, Jake, Kevin & Amber, and Joe. Great-Great-Grandchildren are Quinn, Eli, Dayton, Dempsey, Abbi, Tanner, Izabella, Maryanne, Natalie & Allie. Nieces &nephews are Lynn Wismer, Jerry Groat, Shirliann Cook, Karen Hendricks and close friends Dana & Rusty. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield Street, Brookings. A celebration of Russ’ life and potluck will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings.
