Russ Walker, 69, passed away at the Curry General Hospital on Friday, January 4, 2013. He was the 2nd of the three sons to Ralph F. Walker and Phyllis A. (Moore) Walker. He grew up in Pistol River, graduated from high school in Gold Beach and a received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from Oregon State University. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his younger brother, Leslie Walker. Shortly after college he moved to Tigard and then the Wilsonville area. In addition to working a daytime job; for fun and then as part of being self-employed he traveled across the Western United States in parades with his black and white pinto stallion and silver saddle. This eventually grew into rodeo entertainment acts with his trick horse, dancing horses, and trick riding into a full recreation of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. In 1990 he returned to Pistol River and a few years later he opened the trail ride business Hawk’s Rest Ranch. Many thousands of people; locally, from across the United States and from many foreign countries, have enjoyed riding his horses on the family ranch and nearby beach for the last 15+ years. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11AM at the Pistol River Cemetery followed by a celebration of life gathering and potluck at the Pistol River Friendship Hall.
