Obituary for Rodney D. Henderson
Rodney Dean Henderson passed away February 7, 2013 in Gold Beach OR, the result of an auto accident. He was born on May 28, 1950 in Eureka CA to Dr. Justus Dean Henderson and his wife, Josephine Maria Freeman Henderson. Rod attended Marshall Elementary in Eureka, College Elementary at Humboldt State, and San Rafael Military Academy in San Rafael CA where he graduated in 1968. While at SRMA Rod was recognized for his leadership ability and reached the rank of Captain, Company Commander, A Company. Rod attended Oregon State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and graduated with a BS in Pharmacy in 1974. Rod practiced Pharmacy mainly in the Roseburg and Brookings areas, for many years with Payless/Rite Aid where he became Pharmacy Manager and ending as Pharmacy Manager at Bi-Mart. In his spare time, Rod was an avid kayaker, rafter, golfer, scuba diver, skier, Scout leader and traveler. He was a devoted father to children Chris and Bobby. Rod was known to tell a “good” joke every now and again. Rod loved to research everything. And, “as we all know it is difficult to indoctrinate an experienced canine in an innovative endeavor”, Rod would research any new activity until he was an expert. When in doubt he would “eddy out”. Rod was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Dr. Sidney Charles Henderson. He is survived by his wife Michelle, his children Chris Marie and Robert Justus and their mother Linda; stepchildren Mary and Jacen, John and Mylissa and six grandchildren: Ashley, Audrey, Gabby, Jacob, Brayden and Bradley; his brother Jere and his wife Kathy, niece Jennifer, nephew Jay Dee and his wife Erin, great-nephew Samuel and great niece Lyla. Services will be held Saturday February 16, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1771 W. Harvard Ave., Roseburg, OR, Rev Scott Harkness presiding. It is the wish of the family that, if possible, everyone dress in Oregon State Beaver attire. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
