Obituary for Roberta E. Crumley
Roberta E. Crumley, 88, of Gold Beach, passed away in Gold Beach on August 25, 2014. Roberta was born July 2, 1926 in Portland, Ore. to Robert and Madge Pomeroy. She grew up and attended school there. Follow high school, Roberta attended the University of Oregon for two years, majoring in music. While attending church in Portland, she met James Crumley. The two fell in love and were married in Portland on March 27, 1951. They moved to Eugene where James earned his degree and teaching credential in 1952. Shortly after that, they moved to Gold Beach. Roberta was one of five people in Gold Beach to charter the First Baptist Church of Gold Beach in 1954. Throughout her near-60 years of membership in the church her diligence in intercession earned her the deserved nickname, “prayer warrior.” Roberta also enjoyed playing the piano and working in her flower garden. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jim Crumley of Gold Beach; sons, Dan Crumley and his wife, Char of Gold Beach, Jim Crumley and his wife, Debbie of Gold Beach, daughter, Deborah Lander and her husband, John of Gold Beach; grandchildren, Tyson Crumley, Brenna Peterson, Rachel Williams, Monica Bowman, Jack Lander and Eliza Lander, great grandchildren, Asher Crumley, Parker Crumley, Callen Bowman and Huntley Williams; sister, Marilee Sauter of Portland, Ore. Roberta was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Hurley. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, PO Box 850, Gold Beach, OR 97444. Private interment was held at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, 29755 Turner Street in Gold Beach. Pastor Don McKay will officiate.
