Obituary for Robert "R-dub" W. Johnson
Robert Waldemar “R-dub” Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home in Brookings. R-dub was born in McMinnville, Ore. on February 4, 1934 to Waldemar “Wally” H. Johnson and Goldie V. Larson. He lived in Willamina as a young child. His family then moved to Smith River, Calif.; he attended school in Crescent City. In 1953, R-dub moved to the DeMartin Ranch on the Winchuck River and resided there until his death. Robert married Carol Kay DeMartin in Brookings on April 18, 1953. Carol Kay preceded him in death on March 5, 2010. Together they had three children: son Mike of Crescent City, daughter Lynne (Lamar Dewald) of Midland, Mich., and son Chuck of Leesburg, Virginia. He was also the father of Lisa Johnson of North Bend, Ore. R-dub is also survived by grandchildren Aaron Johnson of Coos Bay, Brandon Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, Christopher Johnson of Puyallup, Wash., Anthony Cook and Bobby (Kala) Johnson of Brookings, Zachary Dewald of Midland, Mich., Hannah Dewald of East Lansing, Mich., Amber Johnson of Leesburg, Virg., and Kaylee Johnson of Lakeside, sister Betty Surgeon, sisters-in-law, Jeanne Robertson and Faye Ridens, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including Dave (Patty) DeMartin of Brookings. In addition to his wife, R-dub was preceded in death by his parents, Carol’s parents, his brother Roy Robertson and brothers-in-law, Lowell “Doc” Surgeon and David DeMartin. A celebration of R-dub’s life will take place in August 2014 in the barnyard of the DeMartin Ranch. Inurnment will be at a later date at the IOOF Cemetery in Crescent City. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
