Long time Brookings resident, Robert Lyle Gruver passed away on December 28, 2017 in Crescent City, California, at the age of 91. He was born Sept. 14, 1926 in Welcome, Minnesota to Lyle C. and Josephine F. (Kruse) Gruver.

Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married August 29, 1948 in Canby, OR to Irene Mae Sether and they had four children. He worked as a telephone company switchman for 25 years. Robert loved woodworking and making things to use at home and at church. He was a “fixer” of all sorts of things, a handyman. He also enjoyed computers and radio electronics.

Robert is survived by two daughters, Karen Johnson of Brookings and Shirley Johns of Colorado, a brother Howard Gruver of Bend, OR, and a sister, Johanna Wojahn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene; brothers George, Gordon and Clarence; son Robert G. Gruver and daughter Sharon Mae Halberstad.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. onThursday, January 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy Street, Brookings. Interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, OR.
