Obituary for Robert Lamar Johnson
Robert Lamar Johnson July 23, 1933 – July 1, 2018
Robert "Bob" Lamar Johnson a resident of Brookings, Oregon, went to be with the Lord July 1st 2018. He was 84 years old. Bob was born July 23, 1933 to Willie Albert and Gussie (Granthan) Johnson in Dothan, Alabama. He served in the Army and was a Korean War Veteran
Bob lived most of his life in Georgia where he was a builder of beautiful homes in and around Atlanta for over 50 years. Bob was a member of Ousley Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia. He married Estelle Louise “Lu” Youngblood on January 22, 1965.
Bob was a people person and always looked for opportunities to help someone. He loved spending time with his family as well as fishing, gardening, grilling and telling jokes.
Bob is survived by his wife Lu Johnson of Brookings, OR; five children: Rex (Cynthia) Balentine of Eastpoint, Florida; Neil (Melinda) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; Debra (Jim) Burks of Gainesville, GA; Tabitha Wilson of Brookings, OR; Terri (Steve) Poponi of Brookings, OR; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Elbert (Josephine) Johnson and Albert (Helen) Johnson, both from Alabama.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Charles, Howard, Evelyn, Barbara-Ann and Shelby.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Curry Good Samaritan Village and Sutter Coast Hospital for the love and compassion shown to the entire family during Bob’s illness.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 8th at 6:00 PM at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield Street in Brookings.
