Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Dose
Robert L. "Bob" Dose Aug. 3, 1935 - June 30, 2011 Robert L. "Bob" Dose passed away in Gold Beach on Thursday, June 30, 2011 with his family at his bedside. He was 75. Bob was born August 3, 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa to John and Ruth Dose where he grew up and graduated from high school. Bob entered the US Army and served active duty and as a Reserve until being honorably discharged in 1962. While serving in the reserve Bob returned to Keokuk and enrolled at Keokuk Community College where he met Sandra Best. The two fell in love and were married in Keokuk on September 6, 1959. He went on to attend the University of Iowa before they moved west to Eugene, Ore. In Eugene Bob began his working years with Credit Bureaus, Inc. and he and Sandra became proud parents of their daughter Laura. A job transfer prompted the couple's move to Brookings in 1967. Bob would work for Gerald Ross Insurance, C&K Markets and CFCU before purchasing his own business, Hearing Health Care in Harbor. His passion for helping people hear again would take him all over the southern Oregon and northern California coast, even making house calls for people who could not leave their homes. He retired from the business in 2004. In his younger years Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting but, at the age of 50, decided to trade his hunting rifle for a camera and became an avid outdoor photographer, even teaching classes on photography at SWOCC. He also enjoyed cooking and woodworking. Bob was a member of the Brookings Church of the Nazarene, the Brookings Rotary, the Lions Club and Gideons International. He was a faithful and caring husband and father who loved God and loved people. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sandy, daughter, Laura Dose of Portland, OR, brother, Jack Dose of Waverly, IA, sister-in-law, Carol Dose of Salem, OR and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Joe. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, 9320 SW Barbur Boulevard Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219 or the Brookings Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1600 Chetco Ave., Brookings, OR 97415. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 6:00 pm at Brookings Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Ave. Pastor Rick Green will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
