Obituary for Robert "Bob" N. Faires
Robert N. "Bob" Faires Nov. 22, 1925 – June 8, 2010 Robert N. "Bob" Faires passed away in a care facility in Sublimity, OR on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. He was 84. Bob was born November 22, 1925 in Venice, CA to Newton and Ellen (Pederson) Faires. He grew up in Garden Grove, CA graduating from Garden Grove High School in 1943 when he joined the Navy. He served for 2 ½ years during World War II as a Coxswain in Landing Craft, most of his time on the island of Guam. He married Jane Cosand, a high school classmate, on November 5, 1949 in Garden Grove. He graduated from California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo in 1951 as a mechanical engineer. He and Jane lived in Covina, CA for 30 years, moving to Brookings, OR in 1988 where they lived for 21 years before moving to Sublimity, OR He was a member and Elder at Brookings Presbyterian Church. He was also on the board of the St. George Lighthouse Society for which he designed and helped build the replacement railing in its restoration. Bob had a passion for all kinds of fishing. He also enjoyed rock hunting, jewelry making and gardening. After retirement, his interest turned to the art of welded metal sculpture. He made many beautiful pieces that his family will continue to enjoy. Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Sublimity, OR; son, David of Yuma, AZ; granddaughter Nicole Faires Heath; grandsons Slade Sapora, and Brett Faires and two great-grandchildren, Dublyn Heath and Max Faires. Also surviving are nieces Kathy Thomas, Joan Gutierrez, and nephews Steve and Jim Faires, Gary and Darrell Fletchall. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha, his brother, Bill and his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Brookings Presbyterian Church, P.O. A memorial service will be held at Stayton United Methodist Church, 1450 Fern Ridge Rd, S.E., Stayton, OR on July 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
