Obituary for Richard Stanley Burwick, Sr.
Richard Stanley Burwick, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Brookings on September 15, 2014. He was born October 1, 1930 in San Jose, Calif. A 50-year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Richard served as Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment traveling all over the state of California. He worked for 29 years at Stauffer Chemical and then retired. He then worked for Varian Associates for 15 years. In Brookings, Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He also had proudly restored a 1938 Plymouth and was active with the Curry County Cruisers. He was a lifetime fisherman, enjoyed bird watching, gardening and bowling. He was also a great cook and enjoyed travel. He and Shirley previously spent five weeks in the British Isles touring Scotland, Wales, Ireland, England and Iceland. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Brookings, daughters, Susan Holley and Leanne Lewis of Oroville, Calif., stepson, Christopher Jay Frost, his wife Cathy and their daughter, Chloe Jennifer Frost, brother, Clifford and sister Lois of Payette, Ida., six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard “Rick” Burwick, Jr., sister, Barbara and stepdaughter, Jennifer Gayle Frost. Viewing and a reception will be held from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. The Curry County Cruisers, including Richard’s 1938 Plymouth, will join in a procession to the IOOF Cemetery in Crescent City where, following a committal service at 1:00pm, Richard will be laid to rest. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
