Obituary for Richard Lee Barton
Juanita & Richard Barton Juanita Sue Barton passed away on April 6, 2018 at the age of 87. Her husband of 67 years, Richard Lee Barton followed her to Heaven on April 11, 2018. He would have been 89 on April 15th. Both attended Brookings-Harbor High School and lived most of their lives here in Brookings. Juanita was a bookkeeper for the family business and active in the Fisherman’s Wives Association when they had their commercial fishing vessel, The Silver Spray. She was a Medical Assistant and an EMT on the local ambulance. She devoted many hours to their church, First Baptist Community Church. Richard was a commercial fisherman when he moved to Brookings from Bend, OR after running an electronics company in Southern California. He was a building contractor in Brookings and built many beautiful homes and buildings. They leave behind Vivian (Dave) Osmundson of Gresham, OR; Daryl (Glynda) Barton of Clackamas, OR; Diane (Steve) Turner of Bend, OR and Carla (Lony) Taylor of Jacksonville Beach, FL and his son Mervin “Skip” (Sandy) Harvey, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his sister Pat McClain. They also leave behind many friends and their “adopted children”, many wonderful people who cared for them and about them in their special town. Many relatives have cared for them including Jodie (Michael) O’Connell of Fort Dick, CA. Juanita’s family, the Kinions, accepted Richard as one of their own and loved him very much. The family is planning a memorial at a later date. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
