Obituary for Richard Henderson
Richard “Dick” Henderson made his peaceful transition to celebrate Christmas with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on December 23, 2017. He was born in Santa Maria, California on November 3, 1931 and moved to Salinas, CA with his family in 1935 where he attended Salinas High School and Hartnell College.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1953 to 1961 during which time he served in Korea for 15 months. Before his retirement (over 20 years ago) he was in the electronic wholesale parts distribution business. Most of his career was spent working at Peninsula Electronics in Salinas.

Dick met and married the love of his life, Doris, in 1977. They quietly celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary less than a week before his passing. Dick lovingly accepted Doris’ eight children, 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson as his own. Dick and Doris moved to Brookings, Oregon from Salinas 16 years ago where they easily slid into their coastal living experience. One could see them out picking up trash along the beaches all times of the year.

Dick was an active member of the Oddfellows organization for over 35 years, in which he served a term as Grand Patriarch in 2000. He was an active member of both the Salinas First Baptist and Brookings First Baptist Community Churches where he served as deacon, usher and treasurer. He was also a proud VFW member for many years.

Dick was a loyal hard-working man that had a deep love for his wife, the family and his heavenly father. His family and friends will miss him and his wonderful sense of humor. He leaves behind his wife Doris (Mann/Lang), his eight children: Diana (Mark) Zellmer, Dan (Mary) Lang, Donna (Kirby Fosgate) Gervich, David (Roxie) Lang, Denise (David) Thomas, Darryl (Robin) Lang, Douglas (Jennifer) Lang, Dale (Denise) Lang and numerous grandchildren, along with his nieces Bonnie (Ed) Baird, Carolyn Beagle and nephew Kenneth Stalter. He is pre-deceased by his mother Elsie (Rodig) Henderson and his father Earl (nicknamed Sikes) along with his two sisters Lois Ford and Margie Stalter.

A Memorial Service for Dick will be held at the First Baptist Community Church, 607 Pacific Avenue in Brookings on January 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Community Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers. Please call for further information (541-469-2014)
