Obituary for Rachel Derricott
Rachel Derricott Nov. 27, 1939 - May 31, 2010 Rachel Derricott died at her home in Brookings, OR on May 31, 2010 with her family at her bedside. She was 70. Rachel was born November 27, 1939 in Dunn, NC, one of six children to Alton, Sr. and Alease (West) Bass. She grew up and attended school there. Following high school, Rachel worked as a waitress before marrying Robert Revello. They later had two daughters, Dina and Michele. After 25 years of marriage they divorced and Rachel later married Jack Derricott in 1982. They lived in the Bay Area where Rachel worked for over 20 years at Kaiser Lakeside Credit Union in Oakland. She retired from there as Loan Manager in October of 2003. Two days after retirement, she moved to Brookings. Rachel loved her family, whether it was cooking a meal or just spending time with her grandkids, she always took care of them. She also enjoyed going for walks, reading, time at the ocean and her ceramic mice and Hummel figurine collections. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Dina and David Howland of Antioch, CA, Michele and Steve Gomez of Brookings, OR, grandchildren, Matthew Howland, Alease Howland, Nicolas Kremer, Samantha Gomez, Jenna Gomez and Kadee Gomez, great grandson, Joao Lopes-Kremer, sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Terry Simpson of Cedartown, GA, brother, Alton Bass of Ft. Myers, FL. Rachel was preceded in death by both of her husbands, grandson, Michael Gomez, stepfather, George Johnson, brother, Dwight Bass, and sisters, Retha Tart and Hazel Grant. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Curry County Hospice, PO Box 382, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 3:00pm at Capella-by-the-sea in Azalea Park. Pastor Lance Knauss will officiate.
