Obituary for R. Robert "Bob" Kass
R. Robert “Bob” Kass, of Brookings, passed away in Crescent City, CA on January 27, 2012. He was 86. Bob was born March 28, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Betty (Ross) Kass. He grew up there until entering the US Marine Corps in 1943. Following an honorable discharge in 1945, Bob attended and graduated from New York University. He married Geraldine Rothberg on October 19, 1947 and began working with his father importing costume jewelry. Bob excelled in the business traveling to Japan 41 different times. Bob also invented the imitation cultured pearl. He and Geraldine moved to Providence, RI in 1970 where Bob worked as a manufacture design representative until retiring in 1992. He and Gerry then traveled all over the country in their RV until learning of Brookings where they moved in 1998. Bob loved living. He was a man of incredible integrity, even earning the nickname “Abe Lincoln” for his honesty. He enjoyed following the stock market and had worked as a stock broker for a few years earlier in his life. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and the Marine Corps League. He was extremely loyal and dedicated to his family. He will be missed deeply. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Kass of Brookings, daughter, Stephanie Hollis-Kass of Corvallis, OR, Leslie Fitzsimmons and her husband J. Randy of Cincinnati, OH, Laura Kass-Moreno and her husband, Ken of San Diego, CA, grandchildren, Michael and Geoffrey Zucker, Rachel and Carly Fitzsimmons, Alexandra, Madison and Jacob Moreno, great grandchildren, Matthew and Savannah Zucker, and his beloved dog, Samson. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Frederik Kass. A memorial service was held at the Masonic Lodge in Brookings. Private inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, OR.
