Obituary for Philip M. Baldwin
Philip M. Baldwin Jan. 25, 1920 – Feb. 9, 2010 Philip Manning Baldwin passed away in Crescent City, CA on Feb. 9, 2010. He was 90. No public ceremony will be held. Philip was born on the family farm January 25, 1920 in Steamburg, PA (Near Linesville) where both his father and grandfather were born, to Philip, Sr. and Ida (Case) Baldwin. His father passed away when Philip was 13. After graduating from Linesville High School, Philip moved to Girard, PA where he worked in the wartime industry shops. After two six-month deferments at Lord’s Manufacturing, he served one year in the Great Lakes Maritime Services. Philip met Mary Sirak in 1943. They married in Reno on May 18, 1945. They moved to Elko in 1945 where Phil worked for the USDA from 1945 to 1952. He operated the Mobil gas station in Wendover from 1952-1956. In 1956, they moved to Fallon, NV where he worked for the USDA and in sugar beet production. In 1957, he operated the Richfield gas station in Lovelock, NV. In 1958, he worked for California Pacific Utilities in Elko until 1961. From 1961-1970 Phil worked for the USDA in Elko, NV. Phil worked for the State of Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles as a driver’s license examiner in Elko from 1970-1980. He transferred to Fallon in 1978 and worked there until his retirement in 1980. He also owned and operated a pesticide spray service from 1969-1978 while in Elko. Phil retired in 1980 and moved to Pleasant Valley. IN 1990, he moved back to Fallon and lived there until moving to Brookings, OR in June of 2009. Phil was a past member of the Elko JayCees, Elks Civic Club and the Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; daughter, Janice Heap and her husband, Richard of Brookings, grandchildren, Jennifer and Robert and a great grandson, Nicholas.
