Obituary for Peter Carfi
Peter Frank Carfi Nov. 29, 1917 – Jan. 14, 2013 Peter Frank Carfi, 95, passed away at a local care facility in Brookings on January 14, 2013. Peter was born November 29, 1917 in Detroit, Mich. to Fred and Mary (Fontana) Carfi. He married Maryon Viola Nichols on June 3, 1941 in Carson, Nev. She preceded him in death in 2004. Peter spent most of his career as a machinist and metal fabricator. Also, later in life, he went into partnership with his mother owning and operating a winery in Ojai, Calif. Peter also owned a successful mobile home park in Ventura, Calif. He was a savvy investor and enjoyed following the stock market. He and his wife sold the mobile home park, retired and traveled extensively. They traveled all over Europe, South America and cruised the Panama Canal and Alaska. When his wife died 8 years ago, Peter moved to Brookings to be by his family. He loved to walk around Brookings and would try to buy red cars from Coast Auto to go cruising. Peter was also an accomplished musician playing piano for the residents of Macklyn House where he lived for the last 4 years. He was known there as Pete the Piano Man. He was loved and wonderfully cared for at Macklyn House. Survivors include his daughters Jeannette Bonham and her husband, Mel and grandson Jim, of Brookings, Patricia Richert of Bandon, sons, Ron Carfi and his wife, Margaret of Ukiah, Calif. and Landi Carfi and his wife, Cyndi of Mercer Island, Wash., 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
